The AOGRPSL project is one of those which have been granted financing as part of the first competition for IPA Adriatic standard projects. For the first time made public through the catalogue on tourism submitted by the IPA Adriatic Programme in the 31st edition of the International Tourism Exhibition in Milan, the project aims to deal with the situation of olive groves in the Adriatic, promoting innovative practices to bulk up the efficiency and sustainability of Adriatic productions. The landscape of Adriatic olive groves depends on the area, in line with the different production models and techniques employed, the type of olive, the productivity and the economic weight of oil growing at the local level. In Adriatic zones there is no single, homogeneous and efficient production practice and there is the need to deal with problems of an economic, technological, environmental and legal nature in the areas involved. Ever greater competition, incompetent management, the overuse of pesticides, frequent low-quality final production and the refusal of olive pressing constitute threats that risk transforming a source of material and immaterial wealth into a problem for the local economies and populations, In order to prevent these problems from reducing the value of the shared heritage of Adriatic olive growing, with its degradation to the point of local populations becoming disenchanted with this part of their culture, AOGRPSL intends to promote innovative production and economic valorisation practices through awareness raising among the young and professionals in other sectors etc. and lead to an inversion in the current state of degradation and rational exploitation of olive groves. Through the project (in which the Tirana and Corfu universities and the Rimini provincial government are beneficiaries) data will be gathered on the olive groves in the areas concerned and information will be exchanges, initially at the research level, which will go towards enriching the experience of the target groups of these areas on issues such as the prevention of natural and technological risks.
