17/11/2010 – BOSNIA: EUR50 MLN FROM EIB FOR MODERNISATION OF WATER SYSTEM
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced the granting of a loan of 50 million euros to support the modernisation of the water and infrastructure system relating to waste water in the Republika Srpska, one of the two entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina. The EIB specified in a statement that the agreement was signed with the Agriculture and Forests Minister of the Republika Srpska. It is underlined that this will contribute to improving the citizens’ quality of life and at the same time bring Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the harmonisation with EU law on the environment. The aim is to protect public health and the environment from pollution linked to waste water. It was specified that the project will regard interventions in 24 municipalities of the Republika Srpska (RS), with a total population of some 250,000 inhabitants. In 2008, the EIB financed a similar project in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other entity making up Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a loan of 60 million euros.
