20/07/2010 – ENTERPRISES: SERBIA; 6 MLN EUROS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF 320 SMES
BELGRADE – Serbia’s National Agency for Regional Development has granted about 6 million euros in financing for about 320 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). 840 SMEs competed for the financing and 70% of the requests granted concern the adaptation of enterprises to higher production standards in terms of quality. According to data released by the Economy and Regional Development Ministry, in 2008 and 2009 the Serbian government had granted about 18 million euros in financing to 749 SMEs by way of SME support plans. The statement noted that in Serbia there are about 300,000 SMEs which account for 60% of GDP and 45% of products exported by the country, employing 45% of the overall workforce.
