"The fact that such an important meeting for a cooperation program, relevant for the involved territories, will be held in Aquila has a great symbolic value: it makes us think, in fact, that these projects for development will contribute to the rebirth of Aquila and its territory, hit hard by the tragic earthquake on April 6."
This is one of the most striking passages from the speech by the councillor for Tourism of the Abruzzo Region, Mauro Di Dalmazio, during the meeting of the Surveillance Committee of the Cbc Ipa Adriatic cross-border cooperation for the communitarian program for the trans-border region "CBC IPA Adriatico" (2007-2013), which was held in Aquila, the headquarters of the Management Authority for the community initiative.
The councillor from Abruzzo, who greeted participants in the name of the Abruzzo Region, thanked those present for their solidarity, underlining how the closeness between the regions, European countries and the rest of the world can transform the hoped-for rebirth into a reality.
"IPA Adriatico" involves eight states: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, Greece and Italy, in addition to Abruzzo, the leader-body, as well as Friuli Giulia, Veneto, Emilia Romagna, the Marches, Puglia and Molise.
The program has a total budget of roughly 280 million Euros and aims at harmonize the Adriatic trans-border area in the name of institutional, economic, cultural, touristic, environmental and infrastructural cooperation.
All the representatives of the partner countries for the program, in the first of the two days, visited the historic center of Aquila, where almost a year has passed since the earthquake, and signs of the tragedy are still visible. All were moved by the places visited
