15/02/2010 – TOURISM: CROATIA, ARRIVALS IN DECLINE, -3% IN '09
ZAGREB – According to data provided by the Croatian Tourism Agency, in 2009 tourist arrivals totalled 10,750,318, a 3% decline on 2008, while overnight stays increased by 1% to 58,980,813.The number of foreign tourists, which increased by 1%, caused the number of overnight stays at tourism accommodation structures in Croatia to increase. However, these businesseslast year reported a 4% decline. The Italian Trade Commission Office in Zagreb reports that in 2009, there was increased tourism from the Ukraine (+22%), Japan (+11%), Austria (+10%), Poland (+8%), and Italy and Germany (+2%). However, the numberof tourists from Russia (-23%), the United States (-22%), Hungary (-13%), Bosnia Herzegovina (-9%), Slovenia and Great Britain (-4%), and France (-8%) declined.The greatest number of tourists and overnight stays was reported by the county of Licko-Senjska in Istria.
