15/02/2010 – MONTENEGRO: CROATIAN COMPANIES TO BUILD MAIN MOTORWAY
ZAGREB – Three of Croatia’s biggest construction companies have been able to obtain the necessary bank guarantees to qualify for the construction of the motorway between the northern and southern part of Montenegro. The project is expected to cost 3 billion euros.The press has called the project ”Montenegro’s contract of the century”. The contract was won six months ago by the Konstruktor consortium from Split and by Igh and Tehnika from Zagreb. In the past ten years these companies have built hundreds of kilometers of motorway in Croatia.The companies had difficulties getting bank guarantees due to the financial crisis. The government of Montenegro was considering the idea of offering the project to another bidder.Yesterday, one day before expiration, the Croatian companies managed to obtain the necessary guarantees. They will built 170km of motorway between Bar (on the Adriatic Sea) and Boljari (in the north of Montenegro). The contract includes a concession for 30 years for the constructors.
